RE: Q - Cedar Hill State Park near Dallas

I agree with what Chuck said. The sites he recommended at Loyd Park are shady with lots of room between them and right on the water. You can't go wrong. Check my signature photolink. I have lot of pictures in the Loyd Park album and they include good views of the actual campsites with site #s.

RE: Queen Wilhelmina,Arkansas (is it worth the gas)

I would agree that although it's a pretty park right on top of a ridge, there is not much to do in the area. Take a look at my signature photolink and you'll see DeGray Lake SP about 20 miles south of Hot Springs. Great park with lots to do in the area.

RE: RV terminology for dummies

Thanks for the clarification on what to call these things you see out there. I've so confused about it that I seldom am willing to discuss them with my friends and family.

RE: Where to stay and what to do in Vicksburg?

We stayed at Riverside Campground and thought it was nice for the couple of days we were there. I would also highly recommend the Vickburg National Battlefield like some of the others did. Give yourself a lot of time. It's really an interesting place. We figured we would be there about 3 hours and ended up spending the entire day. Here's a link to a lot of pictures of the battlefield and of the campground: Vicksburg pics

RE: Stew Olsen

Haven't seen the RV Stew stuff much lately or any reruns of RV Today. However, RVTV on the Outdoor Channel has improved dramatically since last season.

Get a can of "GOOP" at Home Depot. Works great, no residue.

RE: Camping Alone

I'll take a couple of weekend trips a year, just me and the dogs. Do a little fishing, play some golf, hang out with a beer or two. It's nice and peaceful. DW gets to do some quilting without me and the dogs getting in her way. We both like it.

RE: West Memphis Tom Sawyer RV Park

Check out my signature photolink. I have lots of pictures of this park and I would highly recommend it. The new road that comes right down from the interstate only takes 5 minutes to get to the campground and you would have zero problems with it. The neighborhood that people refer to is a bit rundown but it's not a war zone.
I spent two nights at Tom Sawyer and I did not think there were any locals at all in the campground, at least from what I could see. All of the trailer/motorhomes that were there were in good condition and the people that I talked with there were friendly and outgoing. Watching the barge and tugboat traffic on the river is outstanding.
There is a decent laudromat at the park, plenty of room for dogs to walk and the sites were all level. I thought it was a great place.

RE: Bryce Campground

We stayed at Bryce Canyon Pines when we were there and thought it was fine. It's fairly close the sites were easy to get into and the people that ran the place were pleasant. I have a bunch of pictures from Bryce Canyon in my photolink. There's a picture of the Pines campground there. We were the only trailer in the place!

RE: What’s with the smudge pots? (Rant)

Now that is a real dimwit that puts garbage in a fire pit.
I guess you would not understand seeing an old kitchen timer fall on the grate over the fire. 8 minutes later the bell sort of clinked as the plastic dripped off....or the coffee table that fell into a campfire down the road from my trailer...or the old electric heater that fell in a campfire last Thanksgiving.
Now they were campfires.

RE: Safe campground near Memphis?

We were at Tom Sawyer last year. The view of the Mississippi is great. Barges and tugs cruising by. It gives you an understanding of the rivers importance to the USA commerce. Campground is safe. Some would be uncomfortable in some of the neighborhoods leading in.
If you go in by the river road that comes down from I-40 you no longer have to drive through a seedy area. I have lots of pics of Tom Sawyer RV park in my signature photolink.

RE: Camping in Texas?

We moved here to TX 20 years ago from NJ. We thought the same thing about the hot summers...but do what we did...get a pool. You can camp all year round. Want to see lots of campgrounds? Look at my signature photolink. I'll be there are at least 15 albums of TX state parks and COE parks.

RE: Your opinion-Topsail.....

Take a look at the pictures of Topsail that are in my signature photolink. The one that has 3 views of the Cruiser 5th wheel was where we stayed. It was pretty much shady all day long and since it was along the pond by the pool it got a nice breeze also.

RE: going to Bryce and Zion in 2009!

We did a two week trip from Dallas TX to Arches (4 days), then to Bryce Canyon (3 days) and then to Zion (4 days). The rest was travel time to get there and back home.
Arches has a lot of great hiking provided the temps are not too hot. You should be OK in May but make sure you have decent hiking shoes and bring lots of water. It's very dry there. The hike out to Delicate Arch is spectacular at sunset. There is a lot to do in Moab. If you get a chance to do some off roading there are several places to rent you vehicles. Well worth a day doing just that. You can take a 1 day trip out though Canyonlands on some well marked off road trails that take you out in the boonies.
Bryce Canyon is good if you go down into the canyon and hike around. We saw few people down in there but lots up on the rim trails. You miss a lot if you stay on the rim. Totally different view and very strange looking, especially if you are there during a full moon. Another poster said it wasn't much after seeing the Grand Canyon but this is a much better hiking opportunity for a family. There is also excellent horseback riding in nearby Red Canyon that is a lot of fun.
Zion is a hiker's paradise. So many options to try different types of hikes from climbing to the top of a mountain (Angels) to sloshing through water (Narrows). One of the best parks in the country in my opinion and the shuttles are the best way to go. The north rim of the Grand Canyon is only about 1 1/2 hours away but we didn't end up going there because there was so much to in and around Zion.
Check out my signature photolink. I have lots of pictures from all three places.

This one is sort of directed to Mbok. Do you think the weight of the trailer is equivalent to the mph of the wind multiplied by the number of pigeons in the tree?
